Project 1: Performing Arts Centre
A space that elevates creativity and celebrates success, the Performing Arts Centre will comprise of
One large orchestral band rehearsal room
Two smaller rehearsal rooms
Recording studios
Two classrooms
Nine studio/tutorial rooms
IT music lab
Plus several instrument stores.
Project 2: Year 13 Hostel
Providing a home away from home for Year 13 students, the Year 13 Hostel will comprise of
A sprinklered, two-storey hostel featuring HBHS red-brick architectural character.
Individual student rooms with ensuites
A two-bedroom House Masters suite
Collaborative/study rooms
Laundry facilities
Common room opening out to a barbecue courtyard
Showcases Argyle House as part of the HBHS campus
Project 3: Whare Kai
A centre for culture and connection, the Whare Kai will comprise of
Māori Studies teaching office
Whare Kai
Two classroom teaching spaces
Commercial kitchen
Seminar room
Ablutions
Access link with existing Whare Ako.
Design and documentation is near-compete for the Whare Kai building consent, tendering and construction purposes, having een undertaken concurrently with that for the Whare Ako.
The Whare Kai will increase HBHS's capability to host a range of events, and potentially hire the facility for similar purposes.
Project 4: New Turf and Pavilion
Enabling HBHS students to play all day, the new artificial turf and pavilion will comprise of
120x68m playing field with additional 6m margin on all sides
Synthetic grass turf technology providing all year playing surface
Glare-controlled competitive sport-standard lighting to maximise playing hours.
New field pavilion between sport pitches, in an architecture that matches HBHS character.
The pavilion will feature
Visitor toilets
Team and spectator sheltered space
Automated scoreboards
Project 5: G Block Classrooms
A new two-storey teaching block is proposed at the HBHS campus' south-west precinct, replacing existing relocatable classrooms and accommodating anticipated city and school growth.
Key features include:
A new two-storey teaching block with 18 classrooms
Interlinking with existing G-Block courtyard
Progressive staging to suit growth demand
Avenue walkway linking the school centre, from D-Block to the south-side playing fields.
This project builds on the successful courtyard architecture of S-Block (2010) and G-Block (2014)
