MEET THE TRUSTEES
Hamilton Boys High School Foundation Trust Board
Once HBHS, Always HBHS
The HBHS Old Boys' Foundation fosters connection between Old Boys and with the school that helped to shape them.
We fund scholarships and grants, celebrate outstanding alumni, and together, build the endowment that ensures HBHS remains exceptional for every future generation of Hamilton boys.
Chairman's message
"I'm a proud Old Boy, and much of what shaped me I owe to my years at Hamilton Boys' High School.
For me though, the Foundation has never been just about fundraising or governance. It's about making sure the opportunities I benefited from remain open to every young man who comes through the school, whatever his background. Our work rests on three core pillars:
Connecting Old Boys to the School
Establishing and maintaining an endowment fund
Running a grants and scholarships programme
I get a real buzz out of the first of those. Reconnecting with Old Boys. Whether through our events programme or simply running into them out in the community, it is one of the most rewarding parts of the role. There's a shared thread that runs through everyone who has come through HBHS, and seeing that bond come alive again, and watching people reconnect with the school and with each other, never gets old.
The endowment fund is the quieter, longer-term work, but it's just as important. Building and maintaining it is how we secure the school's future and make sure the Foundation can keep contributing for generations to come, well beyond any one of us.
And then there are the grants and scholarships. Some of these have a genuinely profound effect, not only on the boys who receive them, but on the staff and the wider school community as well. Seeing the difference a single grant or scholarship can make to a young man's path, or to the work of a teacher who is going above and beyond, is a powerful reminder of why the Foundation matters.
In my professional life I'm a partner in the commercial and corporate team at Norris Ward McKinnon, and I bring that experience to the Foundation's governance and its long-term financial stewardship. I took on the role of Chairman because I believe those of us who have gained from HBHS have a responsibility to give back to it. It's a privilege to lead a group of Old Boys who feel the same way, and I'm proud of what we're able to do for the next generation of young men who walk through the school gates."
