Scholarships and Grants

The HBHS Old Boys' Foundation keeps Old Boys connected to the school and helps secure opportunities for future generations.

What we do

HBHS Old Boys’ Foundation aims to support the growth and success of HBHS students, both during their time at school and in their lives following it.

About our funding

Across the arts, sports, facilities, pastoral care or more, our grants support our growing school and offer meaningful ways to improve the schooling and pastoral experiences of our students.

Our grants are funded through the generous support of HBHS Old Boys’, whose support underpins the school and its drive for excellence and a dynamic, quality learning environment.

In the past decade, our grants programme has helped teachers, school group leaders and event organisers access funds to help improve the quality of learning and growth for students in the classroom, on the sports field, or on learning experiences: all in pursuit of growing our young men.

Through these grants, we’ve been able to grow the character of the school and have helped maintain and fund resources for some of the school’s extra-curricular activities.

What we fund

HBHS Old Boys’ Foundation accepts funding applications from a variety of avenues directly improving the lives and experience of our boys, including:

  • Culture and Arts

  • Environment

  • Wellbeing

  • Community Development

  • Sports and Recreation

OUR GRANTS

Foundation grants support our growing school and offer meaningful ways to improve the schooling and pastoral experiences of our students.

Through grants, we’ve been able to grow the character of the school and have helped maintain and fund resources for some of the school’s extra-curricular activities.

OUR SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year, the HBHS Old Boys’ Foundation funds one trade scholarship and one tertiary scholarship up to $1500 each – recognising the achievement and the bright futures of young men ready to take the next step in their careers.

Over the years, these scholarships have helped pave the way for these young men to pursue excellence after high school and access the level of education they may need to grow into the future.

Applications for 2026/2027 Scholarships open in November 2026

Our impact

Thanks to the ongoing support of our Old Boys, the HBHS Old Boys’ Foundation has been able to offer real support, both at our school and through the scholarships we provide for students.

Swimming Programme

We were recently able to support our community of international and refugee students, by contributing $500 towards new swimming equipment and clothing for our Multicultural Manaaki Centre.

More than 130,000 kiwi kids have never had a swimming lesson, with immigrant students largely over-represented. Using the school pool and this new equipment, we’ve helped ensure students can access free swimming classes during the summer, and grow confident in and around our waters.

Outdoor Education

The HBHS Old Boys’ Foundation recently supported the purchase a replacement RHIB (rigid hull inflatable boat) for Hamilton Boys’ High School Year 10 Outdoor Education programme.

The boat is a core part of our operational safety and supports the learning experience of students on the programme.

The contribution of $4,000 towards the boat has helped to keep the Outdoor Education programme running and ensures OE teachers are properly equipped.

Argyle House Mural

The Foundation was proud to contribute $1,500 to a powerful, inspiring new mural at Argyle House.

It reminds us daily to "assume the stance of a chief," encouraging us to walk with mana and pride.

Positioned at the front doors of the Hostel, the mural serves as a beacon of inspiration, embodying leadership, pride, and self-improvement. It urges boys to strive for their best selves and will inspire future generations of students for years to come.
